Meet a member: Relativ Impact

What impact has your recent work led to that you are most proud of?

Relativ Impact serves purpose-driven organizations on their journey to enable and amplify significant environmental and social impact. This is done through support with Impact Measurement and Management (IMM), strategic communications, and resource mobilization.

A recent highlight has been working with Colleges and Institutes Canada on an impact study to understand how institutes are contributing to the environmental, social, and economic development of communities through applied research projects and how they are measuring their impact. We look forward to sharing the final report with the CAFIID community in the coming months.

Another highlight has been supporting Quantum Foundation with the launch of Palm Beach Venture Philanthropy, whose aim is to see Palm Beach County’s underinvested communities experience elevated health and prosperity through social and economic investment. Building their IMM capabilities has enabled stronger partnerships and better informed investment decisions.

What challenges and barriers are you working on addressing?

Over the past two years, challenges and opportunities have emerged in specific industry sectors. We have realized that in each of these sectors, decision-makers from key stakeholder groups are making sense of the increasing demands for accountability and transparency in their social and environmental contexts. In response, we have invested in building relationships with experts, clients, and partners that fall into multiple sectors such as education, agriculture, philanthropic foundations, fashion and retail, and financial services.

We have noticed that although there is a need to tailor aspects of our tools and training to suit each sector, having the capabilities necessary to report on impact effectively and efficiently is a common challenge, and an opportunity for collective value creation. It is promising to see that the core of what we deliver can be applied globally and that the need for our approach, and networks such as CAFIID, exists across sectors.

What is your call to action for our membership?

The goal of CAFIID’s IMM Community of Practice (CoP) is to support the CAFIID network in deepening their knowledge of and expertise in IMM. The IMM CoP provides a dedicated forum for sharing tools, approaches, and cases studies in Canada and beyond. With our involvement in the CoP Steering Committee, we encourage CAFIID members to consider joining our monthly meetings to network, learn, and be exposed to new opportunities.

The monthly meetings alternate between a CoP members-only Action Meeting and a CAFIID-wide Webinar. In the Action Meetings, we dive into an IMM-related case study and encourage members to share similar experiences/challenges and discuss potential solutions. These peer support sessions are an opportunity for an exchange of open dialogue and practical advice. For the Webinars, we organize guest speakers to present to the wider CAFIID audience on various IMM-topics – if you’d like to join and have any suggestions for topics and/or speakers, please let us know!

What are you looking forward to in the coming months?

Motivated by the new products and services our team is developing, we envision a future with our clients that allows for greater reach and more coherent engagement across their internal and external stakeholders. One of the tools that reflect this is a simulation model to demonstrate an organization’s intended and achieved impact through baselines, targets, and actual change. Secondly, the advancement of our current capability assessment tool will allow for automation, comparability, and increased personalization.

The upcoming launch of our online learning platform will also allow for more teams, departments, and partners to interact with industry experts, improve their knowledge, and have access to resources focused on IMM, resource mobilization, and strategic communications.

We are also looking forward to our continued involvement with CAFIID, especially in the IMM CoP, and other networks and partners around the world that are also dedicated to better understanding and implementing IMM best practices.
